My husband and I arrived into Berlin via train last Wednesday for a full day of touring the city. We started our tour with a visit to the Berlin Wall. What an amazing experience it was to see this wall now mostly filled with street art which previously represented such sadness. This wall not only divided Berlin from East to West, it divided families.
We continued on touring the city but stopped in a local restaurant for a traditional German lunch. Our delicious lunch consisted of sausage, potatoes, pork, beer and, of course, we finished our meal with apple strudel. I cannot believe the difference in German apple strudel compared to what we call apple strudel at home, delicious!
Our tour continued on with a picturesque boat ride down the Spree River. We were able to view the Bode Museum, the famous TV tower and the Reichstag Building.
After our boat tour we continued on to visit Checkpoint Charlie. It was interesting to see this famous one time crossing point between the East and the West.
We then continued onto the famous Brandenburg Gate located in West Berlin. This is where Ronald Reagan gave his famous speech when he said, “Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
We finished our tour past the famous Victory Column and made our way back to the train station back to Rostock. What an incredible visit.
